Good morning, Spalding County!

Southern Crescent Technical College will bring faculty and staff together October 1 at 3:30 p.m. to recognize achievements and outline what comes next for the institution. During the annual Convocation and State of the College program, President Dr. Irvin T. Clark will discuss recent progress, future goals, and initiatives intended to strengthen the college’s work with students and employers. Henry County Superior Court Judge Pandora E. Palmer will deliver the guest presentation. New employees will be introduced, and longtime staff members will receive recognition for their service. The gathering builds on a local educational legacy stretching back to Griffin Technical College’s first classes in 1963. Today, Southern Crescent serves eight counties, including Spalding, through career training, adult education, and degree and certificate programs.

Griffin residents can get acquainted with LionForge Performance & Wellness during a ribbon cutting Wednesday, September 23, from noon to 1 p.m. at 230 Manley Road. The gathering will introduce visitors to owner Luis and the business’s focus on developing strength and understanding metabolic health. It also marks LionForge’s welcome into the Griffin-Spalding Chamber’s business community. Luis has already begun connecting with fellow members and participating in local networking opportunities. The celebration gives neighbors a chance to meet him directly, learn about the business, and ask questions about its approach to fitness and wellness. Residents and fellow business owners are invited to stop by and take part in the ribbon-cutting celebration.

A building that once educated generations of Black students will help introduce their history to new generations when Our Legacy Museum and Fairmont Event Center celebrate their grand opening September 26. The museum occupies a restored 1929 Rosenwald school building, linking its mission to the community’s long pursuit of educational opportunity. Its work centers on preserving the experiences and contributions of African Americans in Griffin and Spalding County. Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with a dedication and ribbon cutting at 547 North Third Street. From noon until 3 p.m., families can tour the museum, explore exhibits, and enjoy activities in the event center. Admission is free. Hot dogs, ice cream, and commemorative children’s coloring books will be available while supplies last, giving families an afternoon to celebrate and discover local history together.

Moonlight and Magnolias

What: Main Street Players opens its 2026-27 season with Moonlight and Magnolias, a fast-paced comedy set behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s most famous films. Producer David O. Selznick has halted production of Gone With the Wind because he needs a new screenplay, so he pulls screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming away from their own work and locks them in his office. For five frantic days, the trio survives on bananas and peanuts while racing to rewrite the script. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors 55 and older, and $15 for students. The production runs for two weekends at Main Street Players’ intimate downtown Black Box Theatre.
