TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Spalding County!
Happy President’s Day! There's a reason we celebrate Presidents' Day. Not just for the sales, though I won't pretend those aren't nice, but because the holiday asks us to think about vision and leadership.
The whole thing goes back to George Washington, whose February 22nd birthday was made a federal holiday in 1885, making him the first individual American honored that way. Congress later shifted the date to the third Monday in February back in 1971 to give workers a long weekend, and somewhere along the way the day grew into a broader celebration of the presidency itself. But at its core, this is still Washington's day, the man who could have been king and chose to be a citizen instead. That's worth a moment of reflection, even on a day off.
